Pelham Bay Park

Hi all. We have a great park near us. It is an easy five minutes walking distance from us. There are baseball and softball fields, tennis and basketball courts, and a great football field surrounded by a track. In addition, there's bbq pits and picnic tables. I love The Bronx.

The Bronx

This is where we now live: The Bronx. In a neighborhood called Pelham Bay. That's the 6 train, one block away from our apartment, 20 minutes away from Manhattan. I take it to 125th and transfer on the M60 bus to Columbia, where I have found my new coffeehouse, with the best tasting croissants I've ever had. (They warm them up and glaze them with honey and serve them with marmalade for you to spread them. Now, personally, I spread the marmalade then dunk them in a cappuccino. Is there anything more heavenly than combining pan y café?

We live in a quiet street, named Mayflower. The houses are made of brick. Some touching, and most have a front yard with beautiful gardens. One house has a grapevines hanging from their carport.

This is our apartment building. Teenagers live there (i.e. the graffiti). Haven't been around that species in quiet a long time. Met a couple of them; they were nice to us. Hopefully they won't throw eggs at our door.

Pelham Bay is mainly an Italian-American neighborhood. In a 1/2 mile radius there are 8 pizza parlors. Eight! Plus, a great bakery with fresh bread throughout the day. There's also fruit stands, hardware stores, a deli, and a butcher. That, the community store, more than anything makes it feels more like New York to me than Times Square. (Ignore the Yankee fan below. Shea Stadium is actually closer and quicker to get to than that other one.)

These are additional images from our apartment.

SF March for Immigrant Rights

Hi all. Christina and I marched today for immigrant rights. We wanted to share with you pictures of the event. Live, it was tremendous to see the amount of people that came out.

School really is Cool - ha ha

I'm glad you are loving school, Alex. I am having a very hard time readjusting and I miss you all very much. I will be working at the Center for Gender and Refugee Studies this semester in addition to my classes, so I will be super busy. Probably more than ever before because I am starting to study for the bar exam, early. I'm really happy because I will be working on cases and doing policy research at the Center, exactly what I will be doing when I finish with school. You can see what the Center does by visiting their website - http://cgrs.uchastings.edu/ Mami and Papi, I have a feeling that working here will help me find the job of my dreams, so dont worry too much about me. If I'm not reachable, please forgive me. Right now I have a lot going on but know that I love you all so much and cant wait to see you again soon. I hope Vicky is playing that guitar....

Stuck in Jersey

Hi all. We are here and stuck in Jersey. The strike is on and this is what we flew--in an uncomfortable red-eye flight with a carry-on cat--to see. New York, so close, yet...

Flight info

Hi all. Today we were in Berkeley enjoying a break on the grass.

We wanted to share the our flight info. We fly in on December 20, Tuesday morning at 6:54am (leaving SF the previous night at 10pm). We are there until Jan. 5, Thursday, leaving at 7:30am.
I hear there might be a transit strike, huh. Another "I love NY"-Chiqui-experience. I can just see it, transit strike, massive jams...and he misses his first New York Knicks game...(knock on wood).

At Union Square

Christina and I spent some time Saturday in Union Square. They had an outdoors cafe. We had Cheesecake factory cheesecake with some espresso. We wanted to share the sights with you: the only break she had this weekend from studying for finals.

As a reminder of who has braggin' rights...

As a visual aid, I submit this shirt: all you need to do is substitute Virginia Tech in the place of Georgia. I'm sure this Christmas you won't fall for opening a gift from me that feels like a shirt...
